The COVID-19 pandemic has been changing several educational practices in basic education. The main objective of this text is to provoke discussion about the panoramas before and during and possible horizons after the pandemic of the new coronavirus, in basic education. To this end, an analysis was made of the conditions of schools and teacher training before the pandemic; prospecting for actions during the pandemic; and prognosis of basic education needs in the post-pandemic. It was found that school structures and initial teacher training were not prepared for the scenario experienced. During the pandemic, several actions in the educational and social spheres are carried out. For the post-pandemic, it is believed that schools are likely to adopt more intensive hygiene measures and that the topic of distance education will be included in undergraduate courses. It is possible to consider that the process experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic tends to be an important milestone in the context of basic education.
