The white cachama (Piaractus brachypomus) and the black cachama (Colossoma macropomum), are species of fish belonging to the family of the Caracides. Both are native to the Amazon River and Orinoco basins, are part of river fishing and represent an abundant and desirable fishery product. In Venezuela, cachama has been cultivated since 1977 when induced reproduction was achieved at the Guanapito Hydrobiological Station, in Guárico State. For the cultivation of the species to be carried out successfully, the structure to be used and the density at which the crop is to be grown, the type of crop, the good management of the pond, the breeding stages must be taken into account and the possible diseases to which he may be subjected. Cachama is a species resistant to captive handling, tame; resistant to diseases and easily adapted to unfavorable limnological conditions for short periods. Due to the importance they have in aquaculture, the goal of this technical note is to know, describe, and point out what are the technical aspects that should be considered for cachama crop in an effective and successful way.
