LIBER 2020 - Session #7: Super-Charging Your RDM Impact

Abstract

These are the slides from the LIBER 2020 Session Super-Charging Your RDM Impact. Session Description: Open Science has boosted the importance of Research Data Management (RDM). Research libraries have a key role in RDM, consisting of supporting the entire data life cycle through providing knowledge, skills, infrastructure and tools. To keep Research Data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR), we need to train our staff. This session focuses on several training programmes developed by LIBER institutions, teaching librarians and libraries the necessary skills to establish successful RDM. The first paper will present recommendations for research libraries to boost their research infrastructure impact, and to raise their research data services’ standards. The aim is to provide fresh ideas, in order to spark new discussions and deliberations among research infrastructure stakeholders on how research libraries can a) become catalytics actors in the research infrastructure ecosystem, b) strengthen their engagement with research infrastructures and c) raise awareness on research data infrastructures and management as well as open science. Secondly, Sven Vlaeminck and Olaf Siegert will introduce a successful data training program, developed for young economists and business researchers. After identifying a gap between increasingly data-intensive work and a lack of training provided in this area, this program was set up to train doctoral candidates in good practices in managing and documenting research data. In the talk, they will highlight the backgrounds of the workshop format as a spin-off from other library projects, describe the training elements and discuss the outcome of the evaluation of these events by participants. The plans of ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics for the future use of these workshop formats to foster open science practices and research integrity will also be discussed. Finally, Dr. Susanna Nykyri and Dr. Katja Fält will discuss responsible RDM collaboration in all university libraries in Finland within the context of national Open Science coordination and open data learning requirements and opportunities. They create joint solutions for research support services in RDM and open data, and share knowledge, material and best practices. RDM development work at Tampere University will also be discussed. The Tampere University Library trains researchers on RDM, OA publishing and research visibility, and coordinates the data service, which joins services of different service providers and supports RDM on a one-stop-shop basis.
