Bathygadus melanobranchus Vaillant, 1888 – Vaillant’s grenadier; ①, Peixe-rato or Rato ②, ③ This species is often confused with B. favosus. According to Iwamoto (2003), B. melanobranchus is most similar to B. favosus in its external features, but differs in counts of pyloric caeca (9-12 compared with 16-27 in B. favosus).
