Quercus robur Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 996. 1753. "Habitat in Europa." RCN: 1220. Lectotype (Jonsell & Jarvis in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 80. 1993): Herb. Burser XXII: 93 (UPS). Generitype of Quercus Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 189. 1929). Current name: Quercus robur L. (Fagaceae). Note: Jonsell & Jarvis (in Nordic J. Bot. 14: 153. 1994) discuss the reasons for their 1993 choice of type. Brullo & al. (in Webbia 54: 55. 1999) accepted 1128.30 (LINN) as type, wrongly attributing the choice to Hedge & Yaltirik in Davis, Fl. Turkey 7: 663 (1982). This is in any case a Kalm collection from North America (not Europe as indicated in the protologue), and is identifiable as Q. alba L. It is not accepted as original material, and the choice of the Burser material as type in any case has priority.
