LE HEROS REBELLE ROMANTIQUE SUR L'EXEMPLE DE MAZEPPA DANS : MAZEPPA DE BYRON MAZEPPA DE HUGO POLTAVA DE POUCHKINE

Abstract

Ce mémoire est né de notre fascination pour la diversité, l’expressivité et la fougue de ce mouvement artistique qu’est le romantisme. Cette admiration s’est renforcée par la découverte du personnage historique Mazeppa, dans l’une des oeuvres poétiques de Hugo Les Orientales1, du personnage historique de Mazeppa. Ce héros se trouve dans l’œuvre de George Gordon Byron2, Mazeppa3. Chacune de ces oeuvres nous présente un homme amoureux, révolté, souffrant. L’intérêt de cette représentation du héros romantique réside dans le caractère simple et léger de l’histoire représentée. Cependant, dans l’opéra composé à partir du Poltava4 de Pouchkine, le personnage principal, Mazeppa, incarne le contraire absolu du héros byronien et hugolien. Il est un homme politique dur, qui sacrifie tout, même l’amour, au nom du pouvoir. Mais il reste révolté. Le héros n’est plus issu d’une légende d’un pays lointain, mais il s’ancre dans les événements et dans l’histoire d’un pays, celui de l’auteur. C’est une des raison pour lesquelles le Poltava de Pouchkine est précieux à cette étude.
