Introduction We believe that the 23 Things: Libraries for Research Data resource (developed by the RDA Libraries for Research Data Interest Group) can act as a shared reference tool for knowledge on data management. In consultation with RDM stakeholders in the Netherlands, we expect that creating updated versions of the 23 Things for various audiences will improve cooperation at the national level, and a common understanding of RDM among diverse practitioners and supporters. Deliverable: audience-specific versions of the 23 Things This is a deliverable of the RDA Europe 23 Things Revisited: Field Guides to Research data Management project. Via joint sprint sessions, the original resource was updated and adapted to different audiences. In a first phase, we have updated the original RDA output 23 Things: Libraries for Research Data resource. 1. The original resource was updated according to recent RDM developments, such as the FAIR principles, the GDPR, and Open Science in Europe. 2. Links and references were changed to reflect Dutch or European initiatives and resources. This update is available via https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3465895, but is replaced by the versions of the second phase (this upload: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3773663), as these versions are more up-to-date. In this second phase, we have further updated the original RDA output, and adjusted it to different audiences, with help of the national and international communities (for this we gratefully thank and acknowledge all the authors/contributors). These audiences are: - Things for researchers & PhD candidates - Things for Bachelor & Master students - Things for data & subject librarians - Things for data stewards - Things for IT support staff & IT specialists - Things for research software engineers - Things for policy makers For the international community Although some Things are focused on the Dutch community, most of the resources aren’t typical Dutch anyway, as the Dutch community heavily relies on all the useful international resources out there. We believe that our audience-specific versions of the 23 Things are thus relevant to the international community. From static versions to a digital tool As these versions will be static versions only (not updated), the next phase of the project is to develop an online tool for browsing the various audience-versions of the 23 Things. This also stimulates including the 23 Things into RDM trainings. Update: this tool can now be found via https://23things.sites.uu.nl/ About the project 23 Things Revisited: Field Guides to Research data Management is a project funded by RDA Europe following its Adoption Open Call in 2019. Research support staff, such as data stewards, IT support staff, librarians or policy officers, often have different levels of understanding of Research Data Management (RDM). However, they need to collaborate closely to offer state-of-the-art support for researchers wishing to do responsible RDM. The 23 Things: Libraries for Research Data resource that has been developed by the RDA's Libraries for Research Data Interest Group can act as a shared reference tool that enhances mutual understanding and improves collaboration in the Netherlands. It can also be used for quick reference and as a guideline for training. We propose to update and adjust the 23 Things to the above-mentioned audiences and stimulate nationwide adoption. Task group The project is executed by a community-driven task group, in the context of the National Coordination Point Research Data Management (LCRDM, the Netherlands).
