Summary: Crop diversification can enhance the capacity of farm systems to mitigate risk associated with increasing climate and market volatility. For example, diversification can enhance water use efficiency, productivity, soil conservation and nutrient cycling in water-limited regions. While there are many systemic barriers to diversification, we are collaborating with urban communities to inform food policy and strategic investments to support diverse cropping systems and build resilient food systems.
