Best Practice: Organization and Versioning of Source Code

Abstract

English: In our Best Practice series we will inform you about examples for good practice and useful tools in research data management at Thuringian universities. The topic this time is the organization and versioning of source code. Git and other versioning systems are presented and specifically the GitLab web application is discussed. The organization Webis from Weimar reports on their experiences with CVS and Git. ------------------------------------------- Deutsch: In unserer Best Practice Reihe berichten wir von Beispielen für gute Praktiken und Werkzeugen im Bereich des Forschungsdatenmanagements an den Thüringer Hochschulen. Das Thema dieses mal ist die Organisation und Versionierung von Quellcode. Hierbei werden Git und andere Versionierungssysteme vorgestellt und speziell auf die Webanwendung von GitLab eingegangen. Die Organisation Webis aus Weimar berichtet von ihren Erfahrungen mit CVS und Git.
