The problem of national and religious self-identification of the citizens of Ukraine is extremely urgent, since the scientific understanding of such problems is dictated by the urgent needs of the Ukrainian state. The role of religion in society is not only to establish national identity, but also to eliminate conflicts on ethno-national grounds, it should encourage the development of dialogue between different cultures. The formation of religious identity revolves around three things: religious values, religious knowledge, and religious behavior. That is, the religious community must have their own memory of themselves, their own knowledge, and a version of what that religious community is. There must be self-values that are accepted by the members of the group and a style of behavior that can be used to judge people's belonging to that particular religious group. The article deals with the peculiarities of religious traditions and the current religious situation in Ukraine, the formation of religious identity, in particular, the issue of local regional self-identification of the population of Ukraine. The quantitative status of religious communities in Ukraine is analyzed. It is emphasized that religious confinement impedes the consolidation of society. The unification of the Orthodox churches is positive. Thus, the current state of religious associations makes it possible to reach a conclusion regarding their polyconfessionality. In general, the regional dimension of religiosity in Ukraine coincides with regional and local socio-cultural, historical, and economic features of community development. Ukraine's future is largely linked to the process of forming a solidarity political nation. The success of this process is determined primarily by the synthesis of two dimensions of identity: territorial and ethnic. The multiethnic and multicultural nature of the Ukrainian society, which has a fairly clear regional dimension, dictates the need to be most attentive to this whole range. Now, in the conditions of democratization of social life, favorable opportunities have arisen for a constructive dialogue of different denominations and religious organizations, in order to promote the spreading of faith and the establishment of religious affairs and spiritual status in the state on the basis of religious morality, search for a national idea, affirmation of the conciliarity of our lands. . The unification of the Orthodox Churches into one Orthodox Church of Ukraine should play a positive role in the unification of Ukrainian society.
