The increase in the number of medical courses, from 179 to 323, between 2000 and 2018, and with the increasing technological evolution is expected a growth also in the complexity of the facilities and the infrastructure of the IES laboratories. This raises a question as to which is the best professional qualification that could assume the responsibility in the management of this equipment? Considering the period between 2000 and 2018, 18 Biomedical Engineering courses were created. This professional when works in a clinical environment is called as Clinical Engineer. Clinical Engineers are responsible for managing the entire life cycle of dental-medical-hospital equipment. Thus, in addition to monitoring the installation, maintenance and downtime of dental-medical equipment, they are called to respond to the growing demand for cost control, optimization of resource utilization, compliance with regulatory requirements, increased user safety and awareness of human error, and the management of an increasingly complex technological environment. Therefore, the clinical engineering professional could be used to manage the equipment park of the health laboratories at the higher education institutions (IES).
