The circumgalactic medium (CGM) is a dynamic, complex, multiphase, metal-enriched gas reservoir surrounding galaxies which harbors gas and metal masses comparable to those in galaxies themselves. Using a large quantity of spectral and imaging data obtained with MUSE & UVES on the VLT and ACS & COS on-board HST, we have started a major campaign on the CGM of high-z (z > 2.9) and low-z (z < 0.9) galaxies. With nearly 350 low-z galaxies and 100 high-z Lyman alpha emitters detected in a total of 24 MUSE cubes (16 for low-z and 8 for high-z), we have built two statistically significant and by far the largest samples for which CGM absorption line (e.g. Lya, SiII, CIV, and OVI) data are available up to an impact parameter of 300 kpc. Using these data we have constructed radial profile, covering fraction, and mean flux profiles for several crucial CGM absorption lines around low-z star-forming galaxies and high-z Lya emitters. Important results of our ongoing surveys (MUSE Quasar-field Blind Emitter Surveys; MUSEQuBES) will be presented in the talk.
