
El Parque Arqueológico de Pikillaqta se localiza entre la microcuenca del río Lucre, la sub-cuenca del río Huatanay y la cuenca del río Vilcanota (margen izquierda), esta a 26.00 Km al Sureste de la ciudad de Cusco. Los primeros trabajos de investigación que se desarrollaron en este lugar fueron a través del Patronato de Arqueología de Cusco, siendo el pionero el Dr. Luis A. Pardo en la década de 1930, continuando luego el Dr. Luís E. Valcárcel en 1933, nuevamente el Dr. Luis A. Pardo en 1937, más adelante el topógrafo Teodoro Portugal en 1968, realiza el levantamiento topográfico.
