"El ARTE TOTAL EN EL CONTEXTO DEL ROMANTICISMO TEMPRANO: IMPACTO DE LAS TEORÍAS DE SCHLEGEL Y TRAHNDORFF"

Abstract

Abstract This research aimed to analyze the structural and formal manifestation of the Total Art (Gesamtkunstwerk) principles in a selection of twelve (N=12) Visual Arts works from Early German Romanticism (1790–1830), contrasting the results of a semiotic-structural analysis with the theories of K. F. E. Trahndorff (Formal Unity) and Friedrich Schlegel (Dialectical Tension). Traditionally associated with Richard Wagner, the concept was relocated to its philosophical origins in the Jena Circle. The methodology, qualitative in focus and non-experimental in design, applied the Semiotic-Structural Method (Huerto Wong) using analysis tables (A23 and A24) to operationalize the aesthetic principles in the compositional and content dimensions of the works. The results confirmed the hypothesis: German Romanticism configured an Aesthetic Unity Model that evidences the early manifestation of Total Art. The analysis revealed constant patterns of Geometric Organization (validating Trahndorff's formal synthesis) and the use of the Human Fragment (the Rückenfigur or figure seen from the back) as the finite anchor that evokes Absolute Totality (validating Schlegel's dialectical tension). It is concluded that the Romantic theories constitute a pertinent methodological interpretative framework for visual structural analysis, vindicating painting as a vehicle for Weltanschauung and a conceptual Gesamtkunstwerk model prior to its operatic execution.
