Open Science as a Pillar of the Future of Knowledge Over the years, the University of Geneva has built a robust framework to steer and support the profound transformation of academic practices driven by Open Science. In response to current developments and challenges—such as the rise of generative artificial intelligence and the increasing availability of information—the Rectorate has adopted a new Open Science roadmap for the period 2025–2028. Drawn up in collaboration with the Open Science Steering Committee (COPIL Open Science), this document first outlines the reasons behind the University’s commitment to Open Science, recognized as a pillar of the future of knowledge. It then defines the key challenges in this field, along with the strategic priorities and planned actions. The Open Science Roadmap 2025–2028 identifies five priorities: the implementation of a sustainable, fair and responsible Open Access strategy for scholarly publishing (Priority 1); the promotion of Open Research Data through increased visibility, support and deployment of best practices in data management and data sharing (Priority 2); the gradual development of new fields of Open Science in line with available resources (Priority 3); the implementation of a coherent policy for securing and governing sensitive data, aligned with scientific sovereignty and knowledge security (Priority 4); the strengthening of Open Science skills, communication and culture, notably through targeted incentives for early-career researchers (Priority 5). These five priorities will guide all Open Science-related actions and projects of the institution in the coming years, ensuring a coherent and sustainable implementation.
