PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1ST ReLDI CONFERENCE ON LANGUAGE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1ST ReLDI CONFERENCE ON LANGUAGE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) models took computational modelling of natural language outside of the scientific domain and into all domains of society and economy. The truth is, however, that the models do not perform very well on languages other than English. Achieving commercially valuable performance when it comes to smaller languages, such as Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Macedonian and Bulgarian, requires further scientific research. The ReLDI Centre has therefore decided to launch a scientific conference that will deal with both scientific and computational modelling of natural language focusing on South Slavic languages as examples. Our goal is to provide a broadly accessible overview of current scientific insights, technological achievements and upcoming trends through talks by leading experts. The first, pilot edition of the conference will take place on 25-26 September 2025 in the Palace of Science in Belgrade.

Keywords

data-driven language science, language models, text and speech processing, natural language processing
