Abstract

ENG This work introduces the Principle of Continuity as a fundamental condition for the existence of autonomous systems and rigorously derives Reason as a necessary structural consequence of this principle. Within this framework, life is defined as the continuity of a self-sustaining causal process, and Reason as the functional mechanism that preserves and stabilizes this continuity under conditions of uncertainty, environmental variability, and finite resources. Starting from this principle, the work deductively derives the minimal structural architecture required for autonomous Reason, including observation, feedback, self-correction, and coherent autonomous regulation. These components are not treated as biological or cognitive traits, but as necessary structural conditions for the persistence of any autonomous process across time. The model establishes a formal distinction between instrumental systems, which operate under externally imposed goals, and autonomous Reason, which maintains its own causal continuity through internal self-correction. Reason is therefore understood not as a product of biological evolution alone, but as a substrate-independent mode of structural stability that may arise in biological, artificial, or hybrid systems. This framework provides a theoretical foundation for the engineering of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) as a self-sustaining autonomous process rather than a collection of task-specific algorithms. By shifting the analysis from behavioral description to structural conditions of persistence, the work enables formal reasoning about the emergence, stability, and verification of autonomous Reason. Reason is not an accidental property of life, but a logically inevitable structural consequence of a system’s requirement to maintain causal continuity over time."Contact & discussion:Email: generalmek@inbox.lvFacebook (personal): https://www.facebook.com/MihailTkalic © 2026 Mihails Tkalics.
