These guidelines, elaborated within the ORBIS project, reflect on conflict prevention in deliberative democracy discussions. They are meant to suggest possible integrations of conflict detection, prevention and resolution tools based on discourse and argumentation into the platforms for deliberative democracy offered in ORBIS. The guidelines are based on previous research on argumentation in conflict resolution and dispute mediation (e.g. Greco, 2011; van Bijnen and Greco, 2018; Greco, Cigada & Jermini-Martinez Soria, 2024) but have been elaborated considering the specific needs of deliberative democracy platforms in ORBIS. These guidelines may also be useful for any activity in which facilitation of group discussions is needed, especially in the field of deliberative democracy. *** Acknowledgement: USI Università della Svizzera italiana has received funding from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), contract 23.0021 in the framework of data and knowledge from the EU funded Horizon Europe project ORBIS, GA 101094765.
