Abstract

Abstract The growing need for digital accessibility for individuals with severe motor disabilities requires the development of peripherals that overcome the limitations of conventional hardware. In this context, we present the Integral Mouse, a pointer control system designed as an assisted and multimodal technology solution. This device uses the Bluetooth protocol as a means of communication and is complemented by a mobile application (Android), which acts as the command processing and capture center. The system is distinguished by its architecture, which consists of: 1) an interface unit based on the Arduino Micro, configured as a human interface device (USB-HID) to emulate the mouse on the PC; and 2) the mobile application (Android), which uses the smartphone's sensors and camera to interpret the user's intentions. The core functionality offers three modes of assisted interaction that guarantee digital autonomy: pointer movement is managed by head movement (via the smartphone's accelerometer/gyroscope); clicking is activated by blinking the eyes (detected by the camera); and a voice command system is included to execute specific navigation actions. The mobile app offers an intuitive interface for customizing sensitivity and selecting control modes. The project is justified by its focus on social inclusion and improving quality of life, transforming a common mobile device into a vital tool for accessing computing, education, and productivity for people with limitations in the traditional use of peripherals.
