Metales pesados en niñas, niños y adolescentes con Trastornos del Espectro Autista en Barinas, Venezuela

Abstract

Los trastornos del espectro autista (TEA) son neurobiológicos, de origen poligénico y resultan de una disfunción multifocal del desarrollo del sistema nervioso. Estos comprenden: autismo, síndrome de Asperger, trastornos pervasivos del desarrollo no especificados y síndrome de Rett. A objeto de evaluar la presencia de metales pesados como un factor de riesgo ambiental asociado al desarrollo de los TEA en el municipio Barinas, estado Barinas, Venezuela, se analizó experimentalmente su contenido, mediante digestión ácida y espectrofotometría de absorción atómica en 23 muestras (x3) de cabello de niñas, niños y adolescentes con TEA y edades comprendidas entre 6 y 18 años; incluyendo dos individuos sin TEA como control. Los metales potencialmente tóxicos encontrados en niños y adolescentes fueron significativamente (p<0,05) más altos que los de las muestras control; estando n veces por encima de su Valor de Referencia máximo (VRmáx); siendo n para: Plomo=124; Cadmio=95; Níquel=156 y Aluminio=35. Aunque todos los valores sobrepasaron el VRmáx, no existe medida mínima o máxima establecida para determinar su influencia directa o indirecta sobre la aparición de los TEA.
