Uniting the DIFferences with The DALIA Interchange Format (DIF) – a Minimal Metadata Specification for the DALIA OER Platform

Abstract

Teaching data literacy is essential for various areas of society such as politics, science and education. A systematic approach to promoting data literacy involves indexing, linking and making accessible digital teaching and learning resources. The DALIA project (“Data Literacy Alliance”), launched at the end of 2022, aims to link existing material and make it available in an accessible form. It is supported by various institutions and is closely linked to the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). DALIA is developing a knowledge graph for networking and quality assurance of the materials. The DALIA Interchange Format (DIF) is used to schematize the metadata in order to ensure transparency and interoperability. It was created in collaboration with the community and takes existing data standards into account. The DIF V1.3 comprises 18 attributes, some of which are mandatory, others recommended or optional. The poster introduces the DALIA project and the DIF and invites further collaboration.

DALIA is currently funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the funding measure from the EU’s Capacity Building and Resilience Facility under the funding code 16DWWQP07.
