Abstract

Um die globale Erwärmung bis 2100 auf 1,5 Grad zu begrenzen, muss die Menschheit bis zur Mitte des Jahrhunderts Kohlendioxidneutralität erreichen und danach netto negative Emissionen anstreben. Die Reduktion von Emissionen hat dabei oberste Priorität und muss mit Abstand den größten Beitrag leisten. Es wird jedoch Restemissionen geben. Diese müssen wir mit der Entnahme einer gleichwertigen Menge an CO2 aus der Atmosphäre (englisch: Carbon Dioxide Removal, CDR) ausgleichen. Welche Entnahmekapazitäten wir in Deutschland mittel- und langfristig benötigen und wie wir diese aufbauen können, muss jetzt im Rahmen der Langfriststrategie Negativemissionen diskutiert werden. Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler im vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung geförderten Forschungsprogramm CDRterra zur landbasierten CO2-Entnahme haben Empfehlungen für die Ausgestaltung dieser Strategie entwickelt und in einem Policybrief zusammengefasst.
