Abstract

Missionary French origin spiritain, Mgr Emile Verhille is named in June first 1951 bishop of the Catholic church of the diocese of Owando, at the time Strong Rousset, a colonial city in the north - Congo. Following a nervous breakdown in January 1968, he resigns of his load of bishop of Owando March 02, 1968. The course of the seventeen years of his episcopate is laudatory. He has his asset the numerous missions Catholics foundation and stations on the stream (Congo and Oubangui). Besides, he gives back life to some previous missions, initiated by his predecessor Mgr Prosper Philippe Augouard since the end of the XIXe century. Finally, he also notices himself by socio-educational œuvres (schools, center of health, shops of formation to the different professions) and the activities agro-pastoral.

Missionnaire spiritain d’origine française, Mgr Émile Verhille est nommé en juin 1951 premier évêque de l’Église catholique du diocèse d’Owando, à l’époque Fort-Rousset, une ville coloniale au nord-Congo. À la suite d’une dépression nerveuse en janvier 1968, il démissionne de sa charge d’évêque d’Owando le 02 mars 1968. Le parcours des dix-sept ans de son épiscopat est élogieux. Il a à son actif la fondation de nombreuses missions catholiques et stations sur le fleuve (Congo et Oubangui). De plus, il redonne vie à certaines missions antérieures, initiées par son prédécesseur Mgr Prosper Philippe Augouard depuis la fin du XIXe siècle. Enfin, il se démarque aussi par des œuvres socio-éducatives (écoles, centre de santé, ateliers de formation aux différents métiers) et les activités agropastorales.
