Abstract

4. Larrea ameghinoi Spegazzini (1897: 499) Type (lectotype, designated here):— ARGENTINA. Golfo de San Jorge, February 1895, C.Ameghino s.n. (CORD barcode CORD 00003022 [digital image!], available at http://plants.jstor.org/stable/viewer/10.5555/al.ap.specimen.cord00003022). Type (epitype, designated here):— ARGENTINA. Chubut: Depto. Mártires. Road 25 between Las Plumas y Gaiman, 371 m. a.s.l., 1 November 2008, F. Biganzoli & C. Larsen 1953 (SI barcode SI 092511!, Fig. 3). Notes:— According to Stafleu & Cowan (1979) Spegazzini’s type specimens were deposited at LP. Only one L. ameghinoi specimen in LP (barcode LP006751!) was collected in the Golfo of San Jorge by C. Ameghino s.n., but the collection date (January 1896) does not match the information in the protologue. No other specimen from LP matched the original description, so it is presumed that the holotype is missed. A specimen found in CORD (CORD 00003022) is designated here as lectotype because coincides with the protologue. However, the plant material present on this specimen is not sufficient for diagnostic purposes because the specimen consists of only a few leaves (Art. 9.8; McNeill et al. 2012). Thus, the specimen Biganzoli & Larsen 1953 (SI 092511) is designated here as an epitype. This specimen consists of a complete plant with flowers and fruits, very well preserved and collected in the same region as mentioned in the protologue (Fig. 3).
