
Nel romanzo di James Joyce, Dedalus: Ritratto dell’artista da giovane, 1916, troviamo il protagonista Stephen Dedalus, appoggiandosi al suo bastone di frassino, costituire un Templum in aere ed osservare in esso il volo degli uccelli, interpretandone i messaggi. Quella di Joyce è una eccezionale rappresentazione, in chiave moderna, del ruolo dell’àugure, che doveva comprendere i messaggi che Iuppiter gli mandava attraverso le aves, gli uccelli.
