He is not only a Kannadaplaywright but also an acclaimed Indianwriter who had a distinctive voice in theliterary scenario. Karnad is additionallynoted for his bold and courageous standagainst the right-wing politics of India. Heis a writer who travels beyond theboundaries of Karnataka, India, andabroad which created an exclusive spacefor Indian drama. He had an intellectualclarity of what is going to work or hispurpose about the theme and sort of eachplay. This clarity made his plays popularboth in India and abroad. Girish Karnad,being an ambitious person always had athoughtful mind about literature anddrama. He was fascinated by history,particularly Indian history which resultedin his most original historical playsTuglaq, The Dreams of Tipu Sultan, andTale Danda. On the other hand, heexplored the realm of History, society, andmyths which produced beautiful mythicalplays include Yayati, Hayavadana,Nagamandala, and Broken mirrors.
