D-JRA4.3 Demonstration of the Extended Research Infrastructure

Abstract

The advanced methods and services developed within the ERIGrid 2.0 project to enhance RI capabilities. This document outlines the efforts made to showcase and assess the tools and services offered by the extended ERIGrid 2.0 RI. The extended infrastructure incorporates simulators, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) systems, and physical labs, significantly expanding the testing capabilities of a single facility. Furthermore, the integration of these RIs allows access to additional domains not locally available, potentially provided by other facilities in terms of simulation or physical components. As a result, the ERIGrid 2.0 consortium has facilitated the augmentation of the number of feasible test cases, effectively demonstrating the enhanced services provided by multi-RIs. Commencing with the holistic test descriptions, the results of which are detailed in Deliverable D13.1, several test cases have been conducted through the integration of RIs, with results presented in Deliverable D13.2. Subsequently, the extended RI has been fully established. Within ERIGrid 2.0, experimental activities have been carried out, and their outcomes have been collected and described in this report, i.e., Deliverable D13.3. These experiments showcase various extended services, including simulation, HIL, laboratory facilities, and various combinations thereof. Different types of experiments have been considered, encompassing single-environment RIs (such as simulation-simulation and pure hardware-pure hardware) and multiple-environment RIs, which combine simulation, HIL, and pure hardware elements. The objectives of this document are as follows: To demonstrate the ability of the extended RI to provide new services; To evaluate the results of the tests conducted to demonstrate the capability of the extended RI and highlight its advantages; To assess the set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as defined in Deliverable D13.1, used to evaluate the capabilities of the extended RI achieved through the developed advanced methods and services. The document begins by providing an overview of the demonstrations, which were developed in Deliverable D13.1, along with their detailed requirements and the results illustrating the extended RI’s ability to offer new services. It then proceeds to present and analyse the outcomes obtained from the KPI questionnaires, as outlined in Deliverable D13.1. These questionnaires were designed to evaluate the extended capabilities of the RIs, consisting of a generic set of questionnaires applicable to all identified demonstrations, followed by demonstration-specific questionnaires for each of the individual demonstrations. Lastly, the document draws to a close by summarising the key findings and insights.
