Malipatilius forticornis

Abstract

Malipatilius forticornis (Gross, 1965) urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: C1D0D543-0BF0-42D5-8F17-D76FCF1129B1 (Fig. 11) Scolopostethus forticornis Gross (1965: 68–69) (original description, figures: habitus, pygophore); Slater & O’Donnell (1995: 123) (catalogue); Cassis & Gross (2002: 300) (catalogue, distribution). Malipatilius forticornis Kondorosy 2013: 217–218 (new generic placement, photo). Material examined: Australia N.S.W. / Great Dividing Range / Mt. Coricudgy, 1284 m / 32°50.39’S; 150°21.7’E // 23.X.2000. / Hung. Entom. Exped. / leg. A. Podlussány, / G. Hangay & I. Rozner (2♂, HNHM); Australien, zentrales und westliche / New South Wales, Bonley Creek, c. 52 / km sw. Wilcannia, River Gums, Schirm / leg. M. Baehr, 22. 12. 1998. // River Gum: Eucalyptus camaldulensis. / Blackbox: versch. Eukalypten mit stark / gefurchter Borke, wohl meist Eucalyptus largiflorens. / Mountain Gum: Eucalyptus dalrympleana. / Mallee: versch. Mallee-Eukalypten. / Casuarina: versch. Arten (♂, ZSMC). Remarks. The detailed original description of the species (Gross 1965: 68) allows an easy recognition of the species. Specimens from New South Wales studied in course of the present study significantly extend the known distribution range of the species, formerly known from South Australia, Victoria and Queensland only (Cassis & Gross 2002). An important character of the species that has remained undocumented so far is the very short ostiolar peritreme (Fig. 11), orientated almost abruptly posteriad and not reaching the posterior margin of the metepisternum; and the similarly small evaporatorium, covering less than half of the metepisternum.
