Abstract

This article is a presentation manuscript prepared for the introduction of Division of Motor Vehicles andTransportation Technologies & Department of Automotive Technology at Vocational School of Higher Education for Technical Sciences at Iğdır University, Turkey. As a general information on Automotive Technology Program, it is possible to say that this program is a two-year higher education program that aims to train the qualified intermediate technical manpower needed by the automotive industry in both production, design, quality, planning and after-sales service levels, in accordance with the quality and service philosophy that will meet the expectations of the age. The mission is to train preferred, professional technical personnel who have received theoretical and practical training at international level in the fields needed by the industry. Automotive Technology program continues its educational activities with an average of 21 student quotas per year. The graduates receive the title of “Automotive Technician Expert with University Associate's Degree”. The level of qualification is Short Cycle (Associate's) Degree and the official duration of programme in credits and years shall be 2 years (120 ECTS), 4 Semesters, 16-18 weeks per semester. The mode of study is full-time. The main aims and objectives of the programme is to educate and graduate Automotive Technician Experts with University Associate's Degree, and the learning programme outcomes are design, production, installation, planning, monitoring and maintenance capabilities related with Automotive Technology and Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies. The successful course completion of 120 ECTS Credits is required for graduation. The main courses and lectures taught at the Division of Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies - Department of Automotive Technology are stated as follows: Mathematics – I, Physics, Internal Combustion Engine Technology, Automotive Electric and Electronics, Measurement and Control, Technical Drawing, Information and Communication Technology, Career Planning, Occupational Health and Safety, Principles of Atatürk and History of Revolution - I and II, Turkish Language – I and II, Foreign Language – I and II, Mathematics– I and II, Fuel and Ignition Systems of Spark Ignition – SIEngines, Safety and Comfort Systems, Machine Elements, Computer – Aided Design, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Fuel and Ignition Systems of Diesel Compressed Ignition – SI- Engines, Power Train & Drive Train and Power Transmission, Engine Test Adjustments, Damage Assessment and Analysis Methods, Thermodynamics, Automotive Material Technology, Vehicle Inspection and Regulatory, Occupational Health and Safety, Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology, Driving Techniques, Alternative Engines and Fuel Systems, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Movement Control Systems, Emission Control Systems, Technology for Vehicle Body Shell and Painting, Management and Organization for Vehicle Maintenance Service Work Shop, Heating and Cooling Systems, Emerging Technologies for Automotive, Motor Vehicle Design, Technical Automotive English, Entrepreneurship, Research & Development Methods and Internship. As professional status; this degree enables the graduate to exercise his/her profession in the field of Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies – Automotive Technology as an Automotive Technician Expert (with University Associate's Degree) (Otomotiv Teknikeri) in accordance with the national / international regulations and practices. Access to further study depends upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to first cycle degree programmes in or a related field of the study and gain access to these programmes through a centralised, nation-wide Vertical Transfer Examination (Dikey Geçiş Sınavı).
