The initiative aims to mitigate food waste by redistributing excess food to marginalized rural communities, thereby addressing environmental, climate, and socio-economic challenges through innovative solutions. Overview of the Transition From its inception, the Slovenian RUSTIK project has prioritized reducing food loss and waste (FLW) alongside promoting social inclusion. Although these issues are not central to regional development strategy, they hold significant importance in local and municipal contexts. The initiative intersects with goals related to circular bioeconomy and quality of life, while social entrepreneurship aligns with initiatives promoting access to services and the silver economy.
