Abstract

This study aims to examine the elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) found in the 5th Grade Social Studies textbook approved by the Ministry of National Education and taught during the 2023-2024 academic year. In the research, document analysis method was used and various elements in the book were analysed through a descriptive analysis. According to the results of the analysis, a total of 819 elements were identified, 763 in Oral Traditions and Narratives, 6 in Performing Arts, 9 in Social Practices, Rituals and Feasts, 36 in Knowledge and Practices Related to Nature and the Universe, and 5 in Handicraft Traditions. This study aims to increase cultural awareness by conveying the importance and various aspects of Intangible Cultural Heritage to students through the textbook. By supporting the objectives of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Social Studies course aims to give students the awareness that the Intangible Cultural Heritage should be protected and its carriers should be respected. Contributing to the creation of national consciousness based on the elements of Turkish culture and making students understand that cultural elements are the features that distinguish societies from each other are also among the objectives of this study (Ministry of National Education [MoNE], 2023). According to the results of the study, it is predicted that the students will comprehend that cultural elements are the features that distinguish societies from each other in the textbook and at the same time increase the awareness that their own culture contributes to the world cultural heritage.

Bu çalışma, Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından onaylanan ve 2023-2024 eğitim öğretim yılında okutulan 5. Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitabındaki Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras (SOKÜM) unsurlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yapılan araştırmada doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılmış ve kitaptaki çeşitli unsurlar betimsel bir analizle incelenmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, Sözlü Gelenekler ve Anlatımlar'da 728, Gösteri Sanatları'nda 6, Toplumsal Uygulamalar, Ritüeller ve Şölenler'de 9, Doğa ve Evrenle İlgili Bilgi ve Uygulamalar'da 36 ve El Sanatları Geleneği'nde 5 olmak üzere toplamda 784 unsur tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışma, ders kitabı aracılığıyla öğrencilere Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras’ın önemini ve çeşitli yönlerini aktararak kültürel farkındalığı artırmayı hedeflemektedir. Sosyal Bilgiler dersi Somut Olmayan Kültürel Mirası Korunması Sözleşmesi'nin hedeflerini destekleyerek, öğrencilere Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras’ın korunması ve taşıyıcılarının saygı görmesi gerektiği bilincini kazandırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Türk kültürünün unsurlarından yola çıkarak milli bilincin oluşturulmasına katkı sağlamak ve öğrencilere kültürel unsurların toplumları birbirinden ayıran özellikler olduğunu anlamalarını sağlamak da bu çalışmanın amaçları arasındadır (Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı [MEB], 2023). Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, öğrencilerin kültürel unsurların toplumları birbirinden ayıran özelliklerin ders kitabında yer aldığını kavrayacakları ve aynı zamanda kendi kültürlerinin dünya kültürel mirasına katkı sağladığı farkındalığının arttırması öngörülmektedir.
