Abstract This article examines the history, types of nuclear reactors, the current state of nuclear power in Ukraine, and the prospects for the introduction of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) in Ukraine from the point of view of energy independence and security. The role of nuclear generation in energy and the possibilities of MMR in the development of the energy system are highlighted. The report analyzes the global indicators of MMR development, their advantages and the possibility of solving the priority tasks of global energy policy. Several types of MMR were considered and the optimal one was chosen for their development in the modern realities of our country.
