Vernacular Names: East African Highland Shrew. Synonyms: Crocidura alpina Heller 1910; Crocidura zinki Heim de Balsac 1957. Distribution: Higlands of SW Kenya; Mt. Kilimanjaro, Meru and Ngorogoro, N Tanzania. Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable. Discussion: Gureev (1979) listed alpina as a distinct species without comment. Common in the afro-alpine zone at 3500 m on Mt. Kilimanjaro (Shore and Garbett, 1991). For synonyms see Heim de Balsac and Meester (1977).
