Type Species: Simia melanocephalus Humboldt 1812 Synonyms: Brachyurus Spix 1823; Cercoptochus Gloger 1842; Cothurus Palmer 1899; Neocothurus Palmer 1903; Ouakaria Gray 1849. Species and subspecies: 2 species with 4 subspecies: Species Cacajao calvus I. Geoffroy 1847 Subspecies Cacajao calvus subsp. calvus I. Geoffroy 1847 Subspecies Cacajao calvus subsp. novaesi Hershkovitz 1987 Subspecies Cacajao calvus subsp. rubicundus I. Geoffroy St. Hilaire and Deville 1848 Subspecies Cacajao calvus subsp. ucayalii Thomas 1928 Species Cacajao melanocephalus (Humboldt 1812) Discussion: Revised by Hershkovitz (1987 c). Reduced to a subgenus of Chiropotes by Goodman et al. (1998).
