Blastocerus Wagner 1844 Blastocerus Wagner 1844, in: Schreber, Die Saugethiere, Vol. 4: 366. Type Species: Cervus paludosus Desmarest 1822 Species and subspecies: 1 species: Species Blastocerus dichotomus (Illiger 1815) Discussion: Included in Odocoileus by Haltenorth (1963:44-45), but generically distinct (Groves and Grubb, 1987). Hershkovitz (1958) argued that first valid use of generic name was Gray, 1850 but Grubb (2000 a) provided evidence to support wide acceptance of Wagner, 1844 as author.
