Species and subspecies: 1 species: Species Romerolagus diazi (Ferrari-Pérez 1893) Discussion: Whether this monotypic genus represents "the most primitive of the living rabbits and hares" (Fa and Bell, 1990), or is closer to the more specialized leporids (Sylvilagus, Oryctolagus, Lepus) (Corbet, 1983), or is intermediate (Hibbard, 1963), remains controversial.
