Sciurus (Sciurus) nayaritensis J. A. Allen 1890 Sciurus (Sciurus) nayaritensis J. A. Allen 1890, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 2: 7. Type Locality: "Sierra Valparaiso, Zacatecas," [Mexico.]. Vernacular Names: Mexican Fox Squirrel. Subspecies:: Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) nayaritensis subsp. nayaritensis J. A. Allen 1890 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) nayaritensis subsp. apache J. A. Allen 1893 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) nayaritensis subsp. chiricahuae Goldman 1933 Distribution: Jalisco (Mexico) north to SE Arizona (USA). Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Discussion: Subgenus Sciurus (Hall, 1981:431). Includes chiricahuae and apache (Hall, 1981:431; Lee and Hoffmeister, 1963). Reviewed by Best (1995 d, Mammalian Species No. 492).
