Vernacular Names: Mendozan Chinchilla Rat. Distribution: Known only from the type locality (Braun and Mares, 2002), although Thomas (1921 e) and Cabrera (1961) extended the distribution to NW Mendoza Prov. and SW San Juan Prov., respectively. Discussion: Ellerman (1940) considered vaccarum a subspecies of cinerea but Braun and Mares (2002) recognized it as distinct.
