
Brachyuromys betsileoensis (Bartlett 1879) [Brachyuromys] betsileoensis (Bartlett 1879), Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1879: 770. Type Locality: Madagascar, "S.E. Betsileo.". Vernacular Names: Lesser Short-tailed Rat. Distribution: Central Highlands and its eastern fringes, ca. 900-2450 m, Madagascar. Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt). Discussion: Described as a species of Nesomys but referred to Brachyuromys by Major (1896). Occurs sympatrically with B. ramirohitra (Goodman and Rasolonandrasana, 2001).
