The article is concerned with the opportunities to reduce burden on landfill sites of the city of Tyumen. There have been considered the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the ingredients of biogas as well as its physicochemical properties when generating it in a decentralised environment. The calculation of specific biogas yield has been performed and there has been defined the period of complete decomposition of wastes in the course of joint co-fermentation of municipal solid wastes and sewage water. It has been established that the volumes of the produced methane gas are sufficient to use it in order to meet the communal needs of apartment buildings. The reduction of the anthropogenic burden on landfill sites is possible when recycling and using biogas there where wastes accumulate. It provides the basis to stimulate the industries using secondary energy resources basing on cheap raw materials.
