Abstract

The representation of the territory is the documentary memory, among other issues, of the river landscape in past times. The construction of bridges that were necessary for communications was often due to the patronage of the nobility, councils, bishops and other ecclesiastical dignitaries. In the Tagus basin there are examples of great interest both for the intervention of important masters and for the magnitude of the resulting works of singular engineering.
