The arrival and massive democratization of AIs, including generative AIs, is bringing about an upheaval in certain SHS research practices that needs to be questioned. The present document considers AIs not simply as technological tools, but as devices to be invested in, which SHS researchers need to appropriate in order to fully understand the epistemological and ethical issues involved.Moving away from the headlong rush to AI, the HN Lab points to the value of long-term strategies, looking ahead to 2030, allowing time for multiple experiments and deep accul- turation, so as to acquire the reflexive hindsight needed to make the relevant choices about these technologies.
