The provided code is related to the human thermal bioclimate dataset presented for Greece and Cyprus at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10893914. Before executing the code: (a) the compressed folder that contains the GEOSTAT 2021 grid dataset, version 2.0.1 (GEOSTAT-grid-POP-1K-2011-V2-0-1.zip), should be downloaded from this url: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/gisco/geodata/reference-data/population-distribution-demography/geostat, and be unzipped within the "GEOSTAT" folder; (b) the compressed folder that contains the RayMan Pro, version 3.1, model (RayManPro.zip), should be requested from this url: https://www.urbanclimate.net/rayman/introraymanpro.htm, and be stored and unzipped within the main code directory. The code can be used to replicate the dataset not only directly in Greece, but also in any other country included in the Copernicus European Regional Reanalysis (CERRA) domain after appropriate adjustments, as in the case of Cyprus (see https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10893914 and the reference below for more details). Both the dataset and the code were created in the frame of the HEAT-ALARM ("Development of a heat-health warning system in Greece") research project. Compared to the previous versions of the code, this version includes (i) a major modification related to the computation of surface solar radiation downwards in the 08_extract_CERRA_weighted_data_at_regional_units.py script, and (ii) several minor modifications to facilitate a more straight-forward application of the code for other countries and regions.
