Abstract

Manba’-alkhairât This manuscript is now IO Islamic 1562 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 1028 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 1562 Manba’-alkhairât (منبع الخيرات). A mathnawî, celebrating the life and miracles of the great Ṣûfic Shaikh Muḥyî-alḥaḳḳ wa-aldîn Abû Muḥammad ‘Abd-alḳâdir Jîlânî, see the title on fol. 20b, l. 3, and compare Safînat-alauliyâ, No. 36 (col. 278 in this Cat.), composed by Shaikh Sulaimân al-kurdî alḳâdirî alḳhurâsânî allâhûrî alaḥmadâbâdî, the spiritual successor of Shaikh ‘Abd-alḥaḳḳ bin Saif-aldîn alturk aldihlawî albukhârî (who died A.H. 1052=A.D. 1642, 1643, see above, Nos. 290, 640, and 720). Beginning: بهترين عكسى كه در چشم شهود روى بنمايد زمرآت وجود The copy was collated throughout by a great-grand-son of the author, Muḥammad Riḍâ bin Maulânâ Ghulâm bin Maulânâ Aḥmad bin Maulânâ Sulaimân (see fol. 1a, fol. 22b margin, etc.) with the poet’s own copy and annotated in A.H. 1159-1160 (A.D. 1746, 1747). The copy itself, worm-eaten here and there, bears no date. No. 1028, ff. 94, 2 coll., each ll. 19; Nasta’lîḳ; size, 98/8 in. by 53/8 in.
