Abstract

Aleiodes caprinus sp. nov. (Figs 39) Holotype ♀, Thailand, Karnchanaburi, Suan Pa Thong Pa Poom, 31.iii.09 (voucher BB0008, Genbank HQ551247) (CUMZ). Paratype ♀, Thailand, Phetchabun Province, Khao Kho NP, mixed deciduous forest, 25.xii.2002, 16° 32.539’ N, 101° 02.483’ E, 524m, Malaise trap Somchai Chachumnan & Saink Singtong (voucher BCLDQ00753, Genbank JQ388398) (QSBG); sex unknown, Thailand, Karnchanaburi, Thongpapoom, 11.vii.09, UV light trap, Quicke, Butcher & Butcher (voucher BCLDQ01275, Genbank HM435197) (BMNH). Body length 4.0 mm, fore wing length 3.9 mm and antenna length 4.7 mm. Antenna with 38 flagellomeres. Terminal flagellomere acuminate. Median flagellomeres approximaely 1.5 x longer than wide. Occipital carina broadly absent mediodorsally. Mesopleuron largely aciculate, rugulose anterodorsally and along broad, weakly impressed precoxal sulcus, speculum present. Midlongitudinal propodeal carina narrowly absent posteriorly. Fore wing vein 2-CU1 1.25 x 1-CU1. Apex of fore wing subbasal cell with distinct glabrous zone posteriorly. Fore wing vein 3-SR 1.9 x vein r. Fore wing vein 2-SR+M 0.9 x vein r. Fore wing vein SR1 2.2 x vein 3-SR. Hind wing vein M+CU 1.8 x 1-M. Hind wing subbasal cell evenly setose. Hind wing vein m-cu well-developed, subtubular, weakly pigmented, interstitial. Apex of hind tibia with a comb of specialised adpressed setae medially and ventrally. Claws with 2 or so long setae on ventral lobe but without conspicuous toothlike pecten. Basal lobes of 1 st tergite weakly produced, slightly asymmetric, that on left very weakly concave posteriorly. Midlongitudinal carina of 3 rd tergite distinct in anterior 0.8 of tergum. Etymology. From Latin for goat in allusion to the goatee-shaped mark on the 3 rd metasomal tergite. Notes. Collectively five base positions within the bar-coding CO1 region show inter-individual variation, but only two (BCLDQ00753 and AZR224) do so in the same way, and we can see no morphological distinction between them, so therefore we are inclined to consider this intraspecific variation.
