His pioneering research works in agriculture and specific sectors like high yielding varieties of wheat, rice, potato and breeding led to a tremendous increase in Wheat and Rice production and thus India turned from a food-deficient country into a self-sufficient nation in agriculture sector. This significant achievement and his contribution to Indian agriculture sector earned him the well-deserved title of “Father of Indian Green revolution’. He played a major role in the set of changes and reforms introduced in Indian farming in sixties and seventies that helped India combat food insecurity and achieving self-reliant in food and other crops development in agriculture sector as well as indirectly other sectors.
