Relationship between Community Service and the Social Emotional Growth of a Student

Abstract

Abstract: The association of education and its need for developing economically leveraged students has been immemorial. Is the job of education circumscribed within the walls of its economic viability? Can community service help strike a chord to build economically stronger future of its students. This paper uses 280 school students of standards 8 to 10, aged between 14 to 16 years, and associated with community service in schools. The study also uses structural equation modelling to investigate the factors that build learning from community service. The study uses independent variables like awareness, action, ability, connectedness, as factors that can determine task ability, personal relationship and social relationship, for a student. The study highlights the non-cognitive attributes that must be developed in students not only for self and social growth, but also for the economic development of the students in future. Keywords: Non-Contemporary Learning, Community Service, Learning Benefits, Structural Equation Modelling, Students’ Holistic Growth
