En los últimos años Thomson Reuters ha lanzado dos nuevas fuentes de información científica: Book Citation Index y Data Citation Index. De esta manera amplía a seis su reconocida familia de índices de citas, que incluyen artículos de revista, actas de congresos, libros y capítulos de libro, y datos de investigación. La gran variedad de productos científicos nos plantea por primera vez la posibilidad de incluirlos en productos bibliométricos como son los rankings de universidades, sobreponiéndose así a las importantes limitaciones temáticas que se derivaban del empleo exclusivo de artículos de revista. En este corto artículo se sugiere crear un ranking de universidades españolas basado en estos productos y se reflexiona sobre su potencial interés y limitaciones. In the last few years, Thomson Reuters has launched two new scientific data sources: Book citation index and Data citation index. The renowned family of citation indexes has been expanded to six members, including journal articles, proceedings papers, books, book chapters and research data. For the first time ever we have the chance to include this wide variety of scientific formats in developing bibliometric tools such as university rankings. For some, this would end the serious coverage limitations derived from their exclusive reliance on journal articles. In this short article we suggest the creation of a ranking of Spanish universities based on the various citation indexes and we reflect on their potential interest as well as on their limitations.
