Diabetic nephropathy is a complication associated with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by impaired metabolism of carbohydrate, fats, proteins resulting in hyperglycaemia leading to decreased utilization of carbohydrate, excessive glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis from amino acids and fatty acids.
