This communication presents an excerpt from field research carried out as part of a doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. It deals with the teaching-learning process carried out at (ACT) - Associação Cultural Tirsense, founded in 2001, inspired by the bagpipe revitalization movement and the transmission processes of traditional music. In 2003, ACT founded the Escola de Música da Ponte Velha with the aim of strengthening music, instruments and repertoire of traditional Portuguese music, especially the bagpipes, which are present in popular and traditional musical contexts, such as in Zés P 'reiras (groups made up of bass drums, snare drums and bagpipes, whose performance circuit occurs, above all, during religious celebrations). The teaching-learning practice developed is established as a musical experience, as occurs within Zés P’reiras, confirming Antoine Hennion’s understanding of music. This summary aims to collaborate with Lucy Green's reflection on teaching popular music in the formal education system.
